The Owner-Operator's Junk Removal App: Hauling, Routing and Billing From One Phone

A lot of junk removal companies are one truck and one owner, maybe with a helper on busy days. The owner answers the phone, gives the quotes, drives the truck, carries the couch, goes to the dump and sends the invoices. There is no office person. For that owner, the office and the crew app are the same person, and the whole business has to run from the phone in their pocket.

The Office Is Wherever You Are

In a bigger company, the office sees completed jobs come in from the trucks, as covered in What the Office Sees When a Junk Crew Completes a Job. For an owner-operator, you are on both ends of that.

JunkBossPro runs in the browser, so the office side and the crew app both work on a phone. You can check the Waiting List between jobs, book tomorrow's pickups from the cab, and then work today's list in the crew app. No laptop required, though a laptop at the kitchen table at night is still nice for bigger tasks.

Booking Without Answering Every Call

The hardest part of being a one-person junk company is that the phone rings while you are carrying a dresser. A few things take pressure off:

New requests land on the Waiting List map, where you can see which ones are near the jobs you already have.

Filling the Truck

For a one-truck operation, a full truck is the difference between a good day and a long one. The Waiting List shows every unbooked request on a map: single items, cleanouts, on-site estimate visits. When tomorrow has a garage cleanout on the east side, look at the map for single items nearby and book them on the same day. A mattress and a washer near the cleanout turn into money for very little extra driving.

Running the Day

Once the day is set, you are the crew. Sign in with your PIN, clock in, and work the list in the crew app the same way any crew would: navigation to the customer, read the card, Start, before photos, load, after photos, Complete, then the Go button to the dump.

The on-the-way and arrived texts go out on their own, which matters more when you are alone. Nobody else is going to text the customer while you drive. The customer gets the heads-up anyway, and their replies wait for you in two-way texting.

Billing Without the Night Shift

The worst part of a one-person business is the paperwork after dinner. JunkBossPro moves most of it into the day:

The dump ticket step is covered in Entering the Dump Ticket: Getting the Weight Overage Onto the Invoice.

Adding a Helper or a Second Truck

The day you hire your first helper, give them a PIN and a truck assignment and they see your jobs on their own phone. The day you add a second truck, split the work: one truck on single items and small loads, one on cleanouts and big jobs. Nothing about how you run the business has to change. The setup you used alone just has more people in it.

The Start plan at $59 a month is built for a small operation like this. Pro at $89 and Crew at $199 are there as you grow, with the crew app on every plan.

One Person, One Phone, One System

An owner-operator does not need more software. They need fewer places to keep things. Booking, routing, hauling, billing and getting paid in one app is how one truck stays manageable. To see everything the app does, visit the JunkBossPro junk removal app page.
