Dispatch for Junk Removal: Jobs by Day, by Truck and in Route Order

Dispatch sounds like something only big companies have. For a junk hauler, it just means deciding which truck goes where, in what order, on what day. Whether you do that on a whiteboard or in your head, you're already dispatching. JunkBossPro gives it a proper place: the Scheduled List, which works as your dispatch board.

From the Map to the Board

Requests start on the map, as covered in The Waiting List Map: Filling the Truck With Requests Near Tomorrow's Route. Once a request has a truck and a day, it moves to the Scheduled List.

The Scheduled List shows booked jobs by day. Each job shows the address, the customer, the service, and the junk removal details: load size, items, what's going and haul-to. You can look at today, tomorrow, or any day ahead, and see at a glance whether a day is light, full, or overbooked.

Filter by Truck

With more than one truck, the most useful view is one truck at a time. Filter the board to Truck 1 and you see only its jobs for the day. Filter to Truck 2 and you see the other route. Employees are assigned to trucks, so when a crew member opens the crew app, they see the jobs for their truck, in the order you set.

A setup that works for a lot of two-truck companies:

That split is covered in more depth in Running Two or Three Junk Trucks: Splitting Single Items and Cleanouts.

Route Order

Each truck's jobs have an order. You can set it by hand, by moving stops up or down, or auto-route the truck Closest First or Furthest First from the yard and then adjust. Hand ordering matters for junk work because some customers have hard windows: the realtor who needs the house clear before a 1pm showing, or the homeowner who has to leave by noon. Put those first, auto-route the rest, and the day makes sense.

Whatever order you set on the board is the order the crew sees on their phones. If you move a stop at 10am, the crew's list updates.

Saved Views

Most offices look at the board the same few ways every day: today for each truck, tomorrow for each truck, the week for estimate visits. Saved views keep those one click away. The owner might have a view for his own estimate visits, and the office might have one for each truck. No re-filtering every morning.

Printed Route Sheets

Some crews still like paper on the dashboard, and some owners want a printed copy of the day as a backup. The dispatch board prints route sheets for a truck and a day. Because the sheet comes from the same schedule as the crew app, it matches, unlike the handwritten list that was wrong by 9am.

Even with a sheet on the dash, the crew app is still where the crew taps Start, Skip and Complete, takes photos and triggers the customer texts. The sheet is a backup, not a replacement.

When the Day Changes

Junk days change. A customer cancels, a cleanout runs long, a same-day call comes in. On the board, the office can move a job to another truck or another day, change the route order, or slot in a new stop. Crew GPS on the office map shows where each truck is, so a new same-day job goes to the truck that's actually closest.

When a crew skips a job, maybe nobody was home or the items weren't ready, the skip comes back to the office with the crew's note. The office can text the customer and rebook it. Nothing gets lost between the truck and the office.

One habit worth adopting: look at tomorrow's board before you leave today. Confirm each truck's load sizes fit, check that the hard time windows are near the top, and glance at the Waiting List for anything nearby that could fill a gap.

One Board, Every Truck

Dispatch doesn't need to be complicated. It needs to show every job, every truck and every day in one place, in an order the crew can follow. To see how the board connects to the crew app, the customer app and billing, go back to the JunkBossPro junk removal software page.
