The Junk Removal Customer App: Live Route Map, Invoices and Service Requests
Most of the phone calls a junk removal office gets are the same few questions. When are you coming? How much do I owe? Can you come back for the rest? The customer app answers all three without anybody picking up the phone.
The Other Side of the Crew App
The crew's end of the job is covered in Before-and-After Photos and Completing a Junk Job From the Driveway. The customer app is what the customer sees on their side while that's happening, and after.
Like the crew app, it runs in the browser on the customer's phone. No download is required to get started.
The Live Route Map
On the day of the job, the customer can see today's route on a live map, with their place in line: “You're stop 12 of 20 — the crew is 5 stops away.” Instead of calling the office to ask when the truck is coming, they look.
For junk work, this matters more than it sounds. A customer who can see the truck is three stops away has time to open the garage, move the car out of the driveway, and pull the last few boxes to the curb. The crew arrives to a ready job instead of a locked door.
The map is privacy-minded. The customer sees where they fall in the day and how far away the crew is, not the names or addresses of the other customers on the route. Your other customers' information stays with the office, and the customer still gets the one thing they wanted to know: how soon the truck will be there.
Requesting Service
Customers can request service right from the app. A homeowner who had a garage cleaned out last spring can ask for a basement pickup this fall. A property manager can request a trash-out at another unit. Requests come to the office and land on the Waiting List with everything else that hasn't been booked yet.
Customers can also sign up for services and see your pricing, using the services and prices you've set up. That's useful for repeat services, like a monthly pickup for a property manager or a standing curbside pickup for a small business.
Invoices and Payment
When the crew taps Complete, the invoice is created and shows up in the customer app. The customer can:
- See the invoice with every line, including any dump fee overage
- Pay it online
- Update the card on file
- Look back at past invoices
If you charge the card on file at completion, the invoice shows as paid. If not, it's ready to pay. Either way, there's no “can you resend that invoice” call. Unpaid invoices also get past-due follow-up from the office side.
Alerts They Choose
Customers pick the alerts they want: a reminder the night before, a text when they're next, and a text when the crew arrives. Some customers want all three. Some only want to know when the truck pulls up. Letting them choose means fewer people annoyed by texts they didn't want, and fewer people surprised by a truck in the driveway. The details are in Night Before, When They're Next, When the Crew Arrives: Customer Alerts for Junk Pickups.
Ratings and Referrals
After the job, customers can rate it and refer someone. A junk removal job is a good moment for a referral. The customer just watched a crew empty a garage in an hour, and the neighbor who saw the truck probably has a garage too. Making it easy to send a referral from the app means the good feeling turns into a new request instead of fading by dinner.
Ratings give you a quiet read on how crews are doing, especially when you're not on every job yourself.
Who Uses It Most
One-time homeowners use the customer app mostly on the day of the job: the route map, the alerts, and paying the invoice. Repeat customers use it more:
- Property managers request trash-outs at different addresses and see their monthly statements.
- Realtors request cleanouts for new listings and check that the job is done before a showing.
- Small businesses on a regular pickup request extra service when they need it.
For those customers, the app becomes the easiest way to work with you.
Fewer Calls, Readier Customers
The customer app turns the most common phone calls into something the customer can check on their own. Customers know when the truck is coming, can pay without a phone call, and can ask for the next job the same way.
