Night-Before, Next-Stop and Arrived Alerts for Junk Removal Customers
Booking a junk removal job isn't finished when it lands on the schedule. It's finished when the crew pulls up and the customer is standing there with the garage open. Between those two moments there is a gap of a day or a week, and customers forget. Alerts close that gap without anyone in the office making reminder calls.
The App Shows It, Alerts Send It
The visit day and live route map in the customer app are covered in Showing Customers Their Junk Removal Visit Day and the Truck on the Map. The app is where customers look. Alerts are what make them look at the right time.
JunkBossPro sends automated reminders and alerts by text and email. Customers choose which ones they want in their alert preferences: the night before, when they're next, and when the crew arrives.
The Night-Before Alert
The night-before reminder is the one that saves the most wasted trips. It lands the evening before the job, which is when a customer can still do something about it:
- Move the car out of the garage.
- Drag smaller items to the driveway if they said they would.
- Ask a neighbor or family member to be home.
- Text back “Can we push this a week?” instead of being a no-show tomorrow.
That last one matters. A reschedule the night before is an open slot you can fill from the Waiting List. A no-show at 10am is a wasted drive and a hole in the route.
The When-You're-Next Alert
The “you're next” alert goes out when the crew finishes the stop before. For junk removal, that is usually the most useful alert of all, because it is the moment to:
- Open the garage or the gate.
- Put the dog in.
- Open the side door or the basement.
- Come home from the neighbor's, or out from the back of the house.
A customer who gets this alert has the job ready when the truck pulls in. The crew loads and goes, and the next customer on the route isn't pushed back.
The Crew-Arrived Alert
The arrived alert tells the customer the crew is at the address. That helps when the items are somewhere the customer can't see the street, like a back office or an upstairs room, and for customers who aren't home at all: a landlord, a realtor or an adult child handling a parent's house from out of town. They know the job has started without having to call.
On the crew's side, the on-the-way and arrived texts go out automatically from the crew app as they work the route. Nobody on the crew has to stop and text the customer by hand.
Let Customers Choose
Not everyone wants every alert. A homeowner might want only the night-before reminder. A property manager might want only the arrived alert for each rental. Because customers set their own preferences, they get the alerts that help them and skip the ones that would annoy them.
A good habit: when you book a new customer, mention the alerts in your confirmation text. “We'll text you the night before and when we're on our way. You can change your alerts in our customer app.”
When the Schedule Changes
Junk removal days move. A cleanout runs long, a truck needs a tire, or rain turns a dirt driveway into mud. When you move a job to another day on the dispatch board, the alerts follow the job, so the night-before reminder goes out for the new day instead of the old one. The customer app shows the new visit day too.
Alerts don't replace a personal text when something changes. If you have to move a customer who took the morning off work, text them yourself from the office and explain. The automatic alerts handle the routine. You handle the exceptions.
Alerts and Your Text Allowance
Alerts sent by text count toward your plan's monthly text allowance, along with lead replies and two-way conversations: 500 texts sent and received on Start, 1,000 on Pro and 2,000 on Crew, in the US and Canada. Email alerts don't use texts. For a company sending a lot of alerts, letting customers choose keeps you from texting people who don't want it.
Fewer No-Shows, Fewer Calls
When customers know when you are coming, and get a nudge at the right moment, routes run on time and the phone stays quiet. Alerts also make you look organized, which helps when the customer is deciding who to call next time, or who to recommend. That is the next topic: Repeat Junk Removal Customers: Booking the Second and Third Job.
