Charging the Card When the Crew Taps Complete in the Junk Removal App

On a junk removal job, the moment the last box goes in the truck is the moment the customer is happiest. The garage is empty, the couch is gone, and they are standing in the driveway saying thank you. That is the best possible moment to get paid, and it is the one most paper-based companies miss.

The Card Is Already There

Everything in this article depends on the setup in Card on File for Junk Removal: Saving a Card Before the Truck Rolls. When a card is saved before the job, the crew does not need to ask for one, run a separate device or hand anyone a clipboard. They just finish the job.

What the Crew Sees Before Complete

The crew app runs in the browser on iPhone and Android and can be installed to the home screen, with no app store. Each crew member logs in with the company login and a personal PIN. The day's jobs are in route order, and each card shows:

The crew taps Start when they arrive, which can send the customer an automatic “arrived” text. They take before photos, load the truck, take after photos, and then tap Complete.

What Happens When They Tap Complete

Complete does three things at once:

The customer sees the invoice in the customer app. If there was no card on file, the invoice is there waiting for them to pay online.

What the Crew Does Not Have to Do

The point of charging from the crew app is not to turn your crew into a billing department. It is the opposite. They do not:

Prices come from your service list. Tax comes from your settings. The crew does the work they are good at and taps one button at the end.

When the Job Changed on Site

Junk removal jobs grow. The customer says “while you're here, can you take the treadmill too?” or the half load turns out to be three-quarters. The crew should note it on the job, take the photo, and let the office know before tapping Complete. The office adjusts the lines so the invoice matches what was hauled, and the charge reflects the real job.

Set a simple rule your crew can remember: if the job changed, tell the office before Complete. That covers almost every surprise.

What About the Dump Ticket?

The crew often taps Complete before the truck reaches the dump, which means the ticket weight is not known yet. If a load goes over the included weight, the overage can be added from the ticket afterward and billed on its own. For jobs you expect to be heavy, some owners wait to complete until the ticket is entered so everything lands on one invoice. Both approaches are covered in From Dump Ticket to Invoice: Entering the Tons So the Overage Bills Itself.

What the Office Sees

Back at the office, Complete shows up right away: the job done, the photos attached, the invoice created and the payment status. Crew GPS on the office map shows where the truck is headed next. Nobody has to call the crew to ask whether the 2pm garage cleanout got paid.

At the end of the day, the invoices are already written and most of them are already paid. The office is reviewing work, not rebuilding it.

Training the Crew on One Button

New crew members pick this up on their first day. The whole lesson fits in a sentence: finish the job, take the after photo, check that nothing changed, tap Complete. Ride along for the first few stops and watch them do it, and point out the one thing that matters most, which is telling the office when the job grew before tapping the button. Because the crew never handles prices or cards, there is no billing training to give them and nothing for them to get wrong with the money. If someone leaves the company, turning off their PIN turns off their access to the crew app.

The Bigger Picture

Charging at completion is the heart of getting paid in junk removal, but it is one piece of the system. The next article looks at the habit behind it: getting paid before the truck leaves, every time. To see all of billing in one place, visit the JunkBossPro junk removal invoicing software page.
