The Customer's Live Route Map: Showing a Junk Customer Their Place in Line
“Sometime in the morning” is a long time to wait for a junk truck. The customer has cleared the garage, moved the car and maybe taken the morning off work. Every minute after 9 they start wondering whether you forgot them. A live route map turns that wondering into a simple answer: you're third in line.
Another Way to Keep People Informed
Keeping property managers and realtors in the loop is covered in Scheduling Trash-Outs for Property Managers and Realtors With One Monthly Statement. The live route map works for them and for every homeowner on the schedule.
In the JunkBossPro customer app, customers can see the day's route on a live map, with a line like “You're stop 12 of 20 — the crew is 5 stops away.” As the crew works through the route, the count goes down.
What the Customer Sees
The customer sees where they are in the day and how many stops are ahead of them. That tells them most of what they actually want to know:
- Am I still on today? Yes, here's my stop.
- How long until they get here? Five stops is different from one.
- Is it worth running to the store? If the crew is several stops away, probably.
For a junk customer who needs to be home to open the house, that's the difference between a wasted morning and an ordinary one.
It also helps the customers who aren't at the address. A landlord meeting the crew at a rental, an adult child handling a parent's cleanout, or a realtor with a lockbox listing can watch the count drop from wherever they are and leave when the crew is a couple of stops away. That is a lot easier than sitting in a parked car for two hours.
Why Route Order Matters Here
The live map is only as good as the route behind it. If the route order on the board is sensible and stays current, the customer's place in line is accurate. If dispatch moves stops around without updating the board, the map will be wrong.
That's why routing habits matter: auto-route each truck from the yard, adjust by hand for real reasons, and move jobs on the board when things change. The routing basics are in Auto-Routing a Junk Truck: Closest First or Furthest First From the Yard.
Junk Routes Vary More Than Most
Be honest with customers about one thing: in junk removal, stops vary a lot. Five stops of single items might take an hour. Five stops including a garage cleanout might take the afternoon. The map shows place in line, not a promise to the minute. Say so when you book, and customers won't read “three stops away” as “fifteen minutes away.” Most people are fine with an honest picture of the day; what bothers them is not knowing anything at all.
The texts fill the gap. Customers who opt in get a text when they're next and when the crew arrives. Between the map and the texts, they know where they stand and get a heads-up before the truck pulls in.
Fewer Calls to the Office
The live map handles the “where are you?” question before anyone has to call. When a customer does call, the office can see the same route on the board and crew GPS on the office map, and give a matching answer. Customer and office looking at the same thing keeps everyone on the same page.
More in the Customer App
The live route map lives in the customer app alongside other things customers use:
- Requesting service for the next pickup.
- Seeing invoices and paying online.
- Updating the card on file.
- Setting alert preferences for the night before, when they're next and when the crew arrives.
- Rating the job and referring a friend.
For a one-time customer, the map is often the first thing that makes them open the app. Once they're in, booking the next pickup is easy.
Privacy on the Map
Customers see their own stop and their place in line. Other customers' addresses and names aren't shown. The point is “how many stops before me,” not who else is on the route.
A Waiting Room You Don't Have to Staff
The live route map is like a waiting room sign that updates itself. Customers see their turn coming, the office phone stays quieter, and the crew pulls up to an open garage. For the rest of scheduling and dispatch, visit the JunkBossPro junk removal scheduling software page.
